HART - Holistic Assistance Response Team
13 Jun 2022
We are pleased to announce that Harris County located in the great state of Texas has created a new program called HART which stands for Holistic Assistance Response Team. HART is now the fourth branch of its First Response system. HART teams are composed of an EMT and a mental health/social worker and respond to community service/social welfare and health calls that are non-violent and where there is no criminal involvement. Harris County’s goal is to bring a public health approach to these types of calls and provide the most effective community safety response.
Motivated, experienced EMTs work hand in hand with Crisis Intervention Specialist and local mental health and behavioral specialists. This is an important part of DEMA’s team - bringing support to those in need with this brand new program.
The HART program aims to help improve community health and safety as well as save law enforcement and emergency services time and resources resulting in the reduction of racial disparities in the criminal justice system.
